Coffee Conspiracy: Cup 9

As we creep ever closer to a new year, I look into the bottom of my cup of coffee and see a familiar face. This face causes me to recall the excitement I use to feel when I saw a new anime, played a new video game, or read a new comic book.  To many, this may seem ridiculous, and looking back as an adult, perhaps it was. However, when I look back on it, I am filled with gratitude. You see, what I felt is what I define passion to be. I assume there are some that may have no passions. And I assume there are those that are fortuitous to have passions, but are unable to pursue them for one reason or another. I think about this, and I realize what a rare opportunity I have, and it fills me with gratitude.

There are days when it doesn't seem so easy, however. On those days, I do my best to recall the emotion I felt as a younger child. This keep me grounded, focused, and humbled. Humbled not of my talent, but simply as an individual. I was given a gift, and many have sacrificed and aided me to be where I am. Humbled knowing that others haven't been so lucky, and for some that I have known personally, no longer have that chance.

So with this coming new year, I am reminded of my friends and family, both present and gone, of the artists who have influenced me and my pursuit of passion, and of those that have pushed me to pursue that passion. And to all those people, I am thankful, every day of my life. Here is to the upcoming year of 2019. Even if you're all not next to me, you're with me every day.

So whose face was it that spurred these thoughts? Afro Samurai of course.
Thanks to Takashi Okazaki for your dedication to the craft.

Have a great New Year everyone.

Good morning again!

Mostly all ideas we have are inspired by another's design. I would be lying if I said that this little pieces of coffee art were entirely my idea. To an extent, yes, but like all those other ideas, I had a bit of inspiration.

I would be remiss if I went through my first 10 cups of coffee without mentioning what helped inspire this blog. So...story time!

A couple years ago, I was perusing through some Twitter feeds when I came across one of my favorite artist's feeds. His name is Brandon Boyd, known to most as the lead singer of Incubus. In addition to his extraordinary talents as a vocalist and lyricist, he is an astounding visual artist as well. But, more to the point, he posted a picture of the bottom of his coffee cup. He mentioned seeing an eye staring back at him. Although he didn't draw over it like I do, he unknowingly planted the idea for Coffee Conspiracy in my head.

I find it appropriate that I too have seen an eye staring back at me in the bottom of my mug, and it has given me a chance to thank the man that inspired me to start this blog. So thanks Brandon Boyd, good lookin' out...

Hello everyone, and Merry Christmas!

I am sure the holidays have been quite packed as they have for myself.

Families, friends, holiday parties, shopping, work, weather...and on and on and on. It has been a week since I have posted on this blog, and for that I am sorry. But I am back from my vacation, ready to finish 2018, and look forward to 2019.

Whom better to greet me the day after Christmas than this cheery fellow below. It's almost creepy how things like this happen. He seems to be quite happy to be back at the North Pole after, what I am sure, was a very busy night. I hope he had time to swing by everyone's houses to make their Christmas very merry.

I hope it was a great day for everyone, and that they got to share the holidays with those that are special to them.

Happy Holidays everyone. Cheers.

The first song I listened to today was "Make No Sound in the Digital Forest," by Incubus. For those that know me well, I am a hopeless Incubus fan. I would say that my interpretation of my coffee's statement was heavily influenced by this song.

I'd be lying if I said I pictured this exact scene when I first looked into my cup. But, that is the great thing about art. You set out to do one thing, and amidst your creative journey, your thoughts grow and evolve, adapting and conforming to the image in front of you.

This blog has been incredibly therapeutic for me. I usually hassle myself with rules of perspective, lighting, color choices, etc. But with these small little pieces of art, I've been able to relax and experiment, and I have really been enjoying myself. I hope you all are enjoying as well!

Be good everyone, and be excellent to each other! I will be back with more!

Hello! I hope everyone's weekend was full of fun and laughs, with little to no stress!

I have another birthday to celebrate today, so Happy Birthday to Glenn Karrmann! Glenn is a huge Green Lantern fan, and it just so happens that the round shape of my mug can be made to look like the Green Lantern logo. There is not much substance to the image, but what it represents is quite substantial.

For those that do not know, the Green Lantern represents willpower, in addition to honor, nobility, self-sacrifice for the greater...heroism. It is fitting that Glenn has chosen the Green Lantern as his favorite fictional hero, for he embodies many of the philosophies of the Green Lantern.

A former member of the Navy, Glenn selflessly served his country, like so many brave men and women in the U.S. His heroism continues on even in retirement. Just recently, he encountered a wrecked vehicle on the side of the interstate. Without hesitation, he rushed in to find a man trapped inside the vehicle. With flames rising, Glenn sacrificed his own safety and  did everything he could to free the man. Unfortunately, real life tragedies do not always end happily as they do in the comics. The car was wrapped around the man's legs and Glenn, with the help of others, could not free him.

There are many that would have froze in a similar situation, and it is just a further testament to the type of guy Glenn Karrmann is. I am grateful to know this man.

Thanks for being a hero, an inspiration, and a role model to all you encounter Glenn. I hope your birthday is a memorable one!

Beware Green Lantern's Light!

I hope this blog finds everyone well! It's Friday, so that should help. I don't have much to say today, but go enjoy the weekend. Christmas is a stressful time for many. Don't forget to take a little time to enjoy yourself. Spend some time with a significant other, hang out with some friends, just do what you do to enjoy yourself! Less that holiday stress and take the slower path through the weekend. Have a cup of coffee while you're doing it and see if it can tell you what you should do ;) Mine is telling me to go swim in the winter time...cut the coffee some slack...it's just coffee after all.

Mother,

You will have to forgive me, as I wanted to post this yesterday. Unfortunately, as I often do, I got too caught up with my day-to-day activities and I did not get around to it. For that, I am truly sorry. Don't make me out to be a bad guy just yet, I did you a call to wish you a happy birthday!

And it just so happened, on the morning of December 12, 2018, that when I gazed into my empty mug, I saw a smiling turtle. You will have to forgive the eye mask...my childhood has led me to believe that every turtle in the world is a ninja. However, is there anyone better suited to wish you a happy birthday than the party dude himself, Michelangelo!!?? I agree.

So, again, I apologize for posting this a day late. But I told y'all before, worst blogger ever!

On a more serious note, thank you for always supporting me, Mother. Anything I do in this world would never have been possible without you and your support, and I never forget that.  I hope you had an unforgettable birthday!

PS...sweet cheetah sneakers. Love you.

Your Youngest Son,

Ethan

It is an overcast, melancholy day. The rain falls melodically outside my second story window, fusing with the sounds of the ambient lo-fi hip-hop playing through my computer.  My husky sleeps soundly at my side while I sit and contemplate what lies within my finished cup of coffee. The diffuse, overcast light seems to mimic my mood. I find it is a tranquil feeling. Everything on the surface seems quiet and dull.

However, there seems to be some sort of restlessness about. Possibly even mischief. Is there a fox in the hen house?

Hello! Another cup of coffee to start another day.  I fear this one is a little out of place in regards to the holidays, but inspiration has no clock! I would like to appropriately title this piece, 'The Nightmare Before Christmas.'

I am really enjoying this process thus far, and I hope that you all continue to take this journey through this black canvas that is coffee with me. Have a great day everyone!

Best wishes,

EG Claunch

Hello!

I was sitting and enjoying my morning coffee when I was hit with a bit of inspiration. I quite often find that I have nothing to write about on my blog, and I may have found a solution!

Whilst staring into the infinite void of empty mug before me, deeply saddened that it was finished, I saw a creature that was reciprocating my anguish, and I just had to share the shy guy.

I see little images in the bottom of my mug quite often, as I am sure you all do. For me, it will be a great way to get my day started and wake the right-side of my brain up, in addition to giving me material for my blog. So please feel free to comment or even share your own coffee creations!

Is your coffee trying to tell you something? Coffee Conspiracy!

All the Best,

EG Claunch
